Literacy Rich Resources

Please keep visiting!  SEEDS Quality Coaches and Teachers update this page with lesson plans and daily schedules to assist other teachers in creating language rich classrooms and family child care settings.

The Early Literacy Foundations Initiative is a program designed to encourage strong literacy and language foundations for children 0-5 by providing a supportive professional development program for early childhood educators. The 2011-2012 academic year is the sixth year of the initiative, and 340 early care professionals in Santa Cruz County have completed at least one SEEDS of Early Literacy course since 2007!  The goals are to:

  • To support teachers who work with children at risk for low language and literacy opportunities
  • To assess and promote ongoing use of SEEDS strategies following prior SEEDS course completion for quality language and literacy support
  • To promote the use of Response to Intervention strategies
  • To increase the number of children on target with early reading predictors.

The Repeated Read Aloud strategy is a key method of promoting oral language skills in young children. Please utilize the following resources to incorporate the Repeated Read Aloud with your children.

First 5 has adopted the Literacy Rich Daily Schedule to support early childhood educators providing embedded and explicit literacy rich instruction for children throughout each day.  Please use this schedule to help you plan the incorporation of literacy rich activities throughout the day.
